DoggieMythBustersDoggie Myth Busters: The Truth about Common Dog Myths

Myths regarding dogs, their behavior and their training them have been told for centuries. We have all heard these phrases before...but are they true?:

  • Tugging makes dogs aggressive.
  • If my dog goes out the door first, he is dominant.
  • Bones are dangerous for dogs to chew.
  • To show a dog that you are in charge, pin them until they "submit".
  • Don't let your dog sleep on your bed or couch.
  • If you train dogs with food they won't respect you.
  • Dogs that bite will always bite.
  • All dogs can be behaviorally rehabilitated.
  • Purebred dogs cannot be found in shelters.
  • A dog wagging its tail is a happy, friendly dog.
  • An old dog can't learn new tricks.

During this workshop, we will present the facts behind some of the most common myths about our canine friends!

 Are you "The Big Cheese",

or just the human who has some cheese?

How do you communicate leadership to your dog? Is the trick in the training?  At this workshop, we will take a look at common approaches to working with dogs and the subtle ways that you can communicate "leadership". We'll discuss the dog/human dynamic, social hierarchies, body language displays, and much more.

This class is great for ANYONE who owns a dog and wishes to raise the bar of communication with their pet.  We have been told that the only surefire way to get results is through strict "obedience" training, but there are other subtle ways to reinforce your authority and still get the results you desire.
