Reducing Pet Overpopulation in Our Community

On Sunday, April 11, staff members from Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic and Animal Lifeline volunteers worked together to spay/neuter 49 feral cats and low-income family pets. What an amazing accomplishment! Special thanks go to the doctors and staff who helped educate our Delaware Valley College volunteers, and for helping families who simply could not afford basic care for their pets.

This one-day effort will help prevent the births of hundreds, and ultimately thousands, of unwanted animals into our community. Spring is the time of year when all rescues and shelters really feel the effects of overpopulation. Many animals will be born, only to lose their lives simply because there is nowhere for them to go.

Please consider supporting our spay/neuter initiative. A check can be sent to us at:

And you do not have to have a PayPal account to make a donation online by clicking on the Donate button you'll see at the top of our webpage. No contribution is too small!  Our combined donations can help prevent so much unnecessary suffering!

NutritionIssuesforYourPet

A big thank you to Angela Butler of Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic for leading the incredibly informative Nutrition Issues for Your Pet class last Monday!  The participants learned so much about animal food and associated myths.  It was fascinating to learn how to decipher food labels and separate good ingredients from bad.

Participants were SO impressed by the amount of misinformation commonly presented by food manufacturers that we are holding this class two times next year.  Don't miss the opportunity to find out how to help keep your pet healthy with proper nutrition -- next fall with Animal Lifeline Education at Delaware Valley College!

NECESSITIES!

We are desperate for cat supplies to help feral feeders and other rescues.  Any wet or dry food will do, and kitty litter is also needed.

If you can't make it to the Animal Lifeline Thrift Shop to drop off supplies, there are always donation bins at RAU Animal Hospital in Glenside and Doylestown Animal Medical Clinic, and during the month of May, you can find one at at the Central Bucks Family YMCA as well.

Your simple act of kindness can really help those working at a grass-roots level save more animals!

CALLING
ALL STORE VOLUNTEERS!!!

Denise & Laurie are headed out on a three-county shelter rehab trip with our outreach volunteers from May 21-27.

This important trip will help other shelters from less economically fortunate areas update their facilities and take better care of their animals. We are bringing a veterinarian and a trainer to help with education, and several volunteers from the Delaware Valley College Animal Lifeline Club and the Thrift Shop will to do all of the labor.

We will need all hands on deck while folks are away on this trip!  If you are a Thrift Shop volunteer, it would be great if you could help out at the store that week so we can keep the doors open!

Please call 215-343-5050 and ask for Laurie or Denise to get shift information.  If everyone could pitch in a few volunteer hours, it would be a tremendous help!
THANK YOU!

(No new volunteers that week, please!)

BALTO!

Balto1
There was a moment at "Canines on the Catwalk" when just about everyone in the room got at least a little teary.  We were listening to our Adoption Coordinator, Jen Daley, as she explained what Animal Lifeline means to her, and she choked up as she told us about the old dog who had been found starving and tied to a tree.  The dog had been taken in by Animal Lifeline so that he could be gently cared for and made comfortable for his last days.  That dog was Balto.

Well, thanks to the tireless efforts and love provided by his foster family, the DeJessas, Balto has defied the odds, going from 48 to 80 pounds. And today, Balto was adopted into the forever home he always deserved. He is still healing from years of neglect, but healthy enough to enjoy his new loving surroundings.

Thank you to Balto's foster and forever families, and thank you to everyone who helps to support Animal Lifeline with donations, volunteerism and thrift shop purchases.

And judging by the look on his face in this picture, Balto says thank you, too.
